Prototype Tooling

Penn United Technology offers a range of prototype tooling services. We can design your new product, work with your design development team or develop the manufacturing strategy that meets your goals for your new or existing product. Our range of manufacturing capabilities and extensive prototype tooling and production experience can be utilized to efficiently manage material usage and minimize the manufacturing cost of a product.

Once a design has been completed and approved, Penn United can assist with the transformation of your product from prototype into full-scale production, helping you to meet your lead-time and cost expectations and reducing your product time-to market.

Prototype Tooling – Customer Applications

Single-hit and prototype tooling

• Prototype tooling is designed for single hit forming operations
• Wirecut manufacturing is utilized where possible
• Single station prototype tooling inserts are run in a Penn United-owned die set
• Prototype tooling inserts are constructed for limited quantities (typically 1 to    2,500 parts)
• Blanks are loaded one at a time into each station
• PUT's prototype development of products          

Low volume tooling

• Tooling inserts are run in a Penn United-owned die set
• Carbide or hardened tool steel trimming and forming inserts
• Wirecut manufacturing is utilized where possible
• Movable box spring stripper is used, if required
• Flat or formed parts can be run
• Tooling inserts are typically good for 5 million hits with normal operation and    maintenance
• First article inspection report provided

Low volume piece parts

• Low volume pieces can also be produced by using special equipment such as our Omax Waterjet machine or our Precision Work Station Baltec PWS 640, which is a cost-effective method for the manufacturing of prototype and short run stamped and formed sheet metal stampings. The PWS 640 can quickly produce parts from customers CAD files.
