NIMSS0101 – NIMS Metalforming, Level I
5.5 hrs. lecture/lab plus shop floor time

This course is designed to introduce the student to the requirements needed for successful completion of NIMS Metalforming Level 1. A metalformer with specific NIMS Level 1 metalforming skills is ready to operate most metalforming workstations with limited additional training. The following are general areas of competency:
Work planning and job control
Handling, use, and installation of materials and related fluids
Inspection and quality assurance skills
Care and use of tooling
Skilled metalformers are expected to understand and execute correctly all matters related to safety for these competencies. PREREQUISITE: MEAS01

NIMSS0201 – NIMS Stamping, Level II
4.5 hrs. lecture/lab, 36 hrs. shop floor

This course is designed to introduce the student to the Operation of Progressive Dies and to the requirements needed for successful completion of NIMS Stamping Level II. There are many types of stamping presses in the metalforming industry, the distinction in the skills of a stamping metal former is not determined as much by the stamping press, as by the types of tooling and ancillary equipment he or she is competent to operate. A metal former with specific Level 1 metalforming skill and a basic knowledge of the operation of different types of tooling used in metal stamping can meet the proficiency requirements of the Level II stamping skill standard. General areas of competency:

  • Care and use of tooling
  • Handling, use, and installation of materials and related fluids
  • Setup and operation of metalforming equipment
  • Inspection and quality assurance skills
  • Work planning and job control

Skilled metalformers are expected to understand and execute correctly all matters related to safety for these competencies. PREREQUISITES: NIMSS01, STMP01

NIMSS0301 – NIMS Stamping Level III
4.5 hrs. lecture/lab, 36 hrs. shop floor

This course is designed to introduce the student to the Setup of Progressive Dies and to the requirements needed for successful completion of NIMS Stamping Level 3.  There are many types of stamping presses in the metalforming industry, the distinction in the skills of a stamping metal former is not determined as much by the stamping press, as by the types of tooling and ancillary equipment he or she is competent to operate and set up.  A metal former with specific Level 1 metalforming skill and Level 2 operation of progressive dies used in metal stamping can meet the proficiency requirements of the Level 3 stamping skill standard. The following are general areas of competency:
Care and use of tooling
Handling, use, and installation of materials and related fluids
Setup and operation of metalforming equipment
Inspection and quality assurance skills
Work planning and job control
Operation of progressive dies and in-line equipment
Set up of progressive dies and in-line equipment
Skilled metalformers are expected to understand and execute correctly all matters related to safety for these competencies. PREREQUISITE:  NIMSS02

STMP0102 – Stamping Operations
30 hrs. lecture

Designed as an introductory course to the Stamping Process. It gives the student a basic understanding of different types of presses, inline equipment, basic die components and their function, and preparing the press for the die. PREREQUISITE: MEAS01
